Well, I had planned to sit down and do a post on our Advent calendar planned for this year. While I did get one made, it pales next to Ethan's creation of the day.
I decided I really needed to focus and get the calendar made so it would be ready for this weekend. While Katie napped this afternoon, Ethan joined me in my bedroom while I sewed away. I put the scraps I didn't need on the floor and he happily sat there cutting. He came up to my elbow and asked me to sew two pieces of cloth together. I looked at what he had, and he had cut out a stable. Of course, I happily granted the request. Next thing I knew he was asking for specific colors of cloth. (I really need to make up a bin of lots of scraps for them!) He wanted green so he could make hills. Next, he was asking for yellow so he could make a star and have light in his stable. When I had my cloth bin out, he saw some blue starry material and asked for it.
He wanted his to look similar to mine, but it was entirely his own creation. He cut out every piece and placed it all together before asking me to sew the various seams. He was very worried that I'd be using all the little clay figurines (which I did), but I had a package of felt figurines that I had also bought to possibly use. He was thrilled when I opened it up and let him use them for his nativity scene.
So this evening after supper we went together and got a scrapbook frame to hold his first picture. I love it!

This was his first step - the stable |

Cutting away at the discarded scraps. |

Cutting the pieces to be the same size. |

Inky was determined to be a part of the show. I kept pulling her off my advent calendar,
but she kept plopping herself right back on top of it. |
 |
He was worried he wouldn't have anything to put on his nativity scene, so started drawing the figures. |

Nativity scene waiting for the embellishments |

Finally! Getting to put the figurines on his scene |

Ethan's finished product. It looks even nicer in the frame,
but the glare was too bad to get a picture of it. |
